Our tee celebrates three of the 30,000-plus treasures that comprise the Museum’s department of Greek and Roman art, one of the most comprehensive of its kind in North America. Showcased is the marble head of an athlete (ca. A.D. 138–192), a Roman copy of an ancient Greek bronze statue; a Greek terracotta Panathenaic prize amphora (ca. 530 B.C.) attributed to the Euphiletos Painter; and an ivory likeness of a sandaled foot from Early Imperial Rome. The selection represents The Met’s breadth of art and artifacts made between the Neolithic period (ca. 4500 B.C.) and A.D. 312, when the Roman emperor Constantine converted to Christianity.
